Porlock recorded their debut album ‘Laughter needs the World’ in spring 2005, at 2fly studios, Sheffield Engineered and co-produced by Alan Smythe, “Laughter…” is a sometimes plaintive, sometimes krautrockesque, epic tapestry of sound. Sweet vocals weave into pulses, drones and battered percussion, while choruses explode with vintage synths and glowing valve amps. A wild bunch of friends added cellos, violins, brass, more percussion, while Al Smythe played some e-bow. “Laughter…” captures Porlock in all their drawn-out, mesmerizing glory. See “Releases” for availability. Porlock are to play The Grapes, Trippet Lane, Sheffield, on Friday 2nd December with support from The Lodger and Screaming Mimi. Since recording “Laughter Needs the World”, Porlock are playing live as a 4-piece with an entirely new set of songs and a more pared-down aesthetic. |
